Boron-induced Bioelectric Field Change in Mung Bean Hypocotyl.

Low concentrations of boron were found to affect the bioelectric field potentials of hypocotyls excised from 4-day-old mung bean (Phaseolus aureus cv. Oklahoma 612) seedlings grown in darkness and irradiated with red light. The significance of this effect is discussed in relation to the possible role of boron in some membrane function.

Phytochrome-mediated bioelectric potentials in mung bean seedlings.

Excised root tips from dark-grown mung bean seedlings (Phaseolus aureus) that adhere to a negatively charged glass surface when irradiated with red light and release when irradiated by far-red light develop a positive bioelectric potential (about 1.0 millivolt) at the tip in red light and a negative bioelectric potential in far-red light. The sign of the bioelectric potential was repeatedly pho...

Adenine nucleotide regulation of malate oxidation in isolated mung bean hypocotyl mitochondria.

We have studied the effects of ATP and ADP on the oxidation of malate by coupled and uncoupled mitochondria prepared from etiolated hypocotyls of mung bean (Vigna radiata L.).In coupled mitochondria, ATP (1 millimolar) increased pyruvate production and decreased oxaloacetate formation without altering the rate of oxygen consumption. ATP also significantly decreased oxaloacetate production and i...

Molecular cloning of vacuolar H(+)-pyrophosphatase and its developmental expression in growing hypocotyl of mung bean.

Vacuolar proton-translocating inorganic pyrophosphatase and H(+)-ATPase acidify the vacuoles and power the vacuolar secondary active transport systems in plants. Developmental changes in the transcription of the pyrophosphatase in growing hypocotyls of mung bean (Vigna radiata) were investigated. The cDNA clone for the mung bean enzyme contains an uninterrupted open reading frame of 2298 bp, co...

Mung Bean (Vigna radiata) Seedlings'

Two forms of Fd-NADP+ oxidoreductase (FNR) isoproteins have been purified and characterized from the first foliage leaves of 5d-old mung bean (Vigna radiata). They could be separated by either Mono Q HR 515 or ferredoxin (Fd)-Sepharose 48 affinity columns. Based on immunoblot analysis and N-terminal amino acid sequences, one form resembles the FNR purified from photosynthetic tissues of higher ...
